Buddha’s birthplace development project comes to third phase

BANGKOK, 20 July 2012 (NNT) – The development of the Buddha’s birthplace in Nepal, being undertaken by a Thai committee, is now in its third phase.

Project Committee Chairperson Sudarat Keyuraphan said she has received approval from the World Heritage Committee and a license to develop the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Lumbini in Nepal so that people can visit the Buddha’s birthplace and perform merit-making. The development project is also created as a tribute to Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit.

In order to allow public participation and raise funds for the project, the committee will hold a Lumbini Development Week at CentralWorld, Ratchaprasong, from August 9-16. Prayers, Buddhist rituals, meditations and dhamma lectures will be part of the event. A candle-lit ceremony will be held on August 12 to mark the 80th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen.
