Da Torpedo given 15 years jail for lese majeste

BANGKOK, Dec 15 – Thailand’s Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced a leading Red Shirt supporter, Daranee Chanchoengsilpakul, commonly known as ‘Da Torpedo’ to 15 years jail for making speeches deemed insulting Thailand’s revered monarchy during the anti-government Red Shirt rallies three years ago.

The Thursday ruling of the criminal court was a retrial after the appeals court in February overturned an 18-year jail sentence handed to her by the lower court’s ruling on the grounds that she did not have an open trial.
