Three disticts in Ayutthaya are declared flood disaster zones

AYUTTHAYA, 7 August, 2011(NNT) – The governor of Ayutthaya province has declared three districts flood disaster zones as the water in Chao Phraya Dam has already flooded the western part of the Chao Phraya River.

The water level of the Chao Phraya River in front of Wat Chai Watthanaram has risen rapidly and is close to bursting its bank. The Fine Arts department is taking a close watch to prevent any damage to the ancient temple.

Local people in Bang Ban district are preparing to move to higher ground as the water level in Bang Luang canal has risen by 15 centimeters. Farming areas along the canal are now under water.

Wittaya Pewpong, Ayutthaya Governor has declared Bang Pa-In, Bang Sai and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya flood disaster zones. Five more districts namely Bang Ban, Sena, Phak Hai, Bang Pahan and Nakhon Luang are expected to be declared flood disaster zones on Monday.
