Abhisit makes merits on his birthday

BANGKOK, 3 August 2011 (NNT) – Outgoing Prime Minister and acting Democrat Party Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has made merits at his residence with his family members upon his 47th birthday anniversary amid tight security.

Mr Abhisit and his family members on Wednesday morning invited nine Buddhist monks from Wat Daowadueng to his residence inside Soi Sawasdee or Sukhumvit 31 to make merits upon his 47th birthday anniversary.

The merit-making ceremony was held within the family amid security forces from Thong Lor Police Station. Media members were not allowed to enter the residence.

After the ceremony, a supporter of the outgoing prime minister travelled to present him a large photo frame containing pictures of Mr Abhisit and his family members in various activities, together with ten racks of eggs as his birthday gifts. Others also travelled to his residence and gave him birthday presents to wish him a happy birthday.

Meanwhile, incoming Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra extended her best wishes for Mr Abhisit’s happiness and good health upon his birthday. As a newcomer in the national politics, she expressed her hope that they could work together in a constructive manner.
