Veera’s health worsens, awaits Thai government help seeking pardon

BANGKOK, March 7 – Thai Patriots Network coordinator Veera Somkwamkid, convicted and serving time in a Cambodian prison, is now seriously ill in his Cambodian prison and his family is quite concerned for his well-being as they await Thai government help in seeking royal pardon from the Cambodian monarch for his release, Mr Veera’s brother said Monday.

Preecha Somkwamkid said he and his mother visited Mr Veera in Phnom Penh’s Preysar Prison on Friday and found that his brother’s health is deteriorating due to a mouth ulcer infection.

The 53-year-old activist is in weak condition as he has congenital diseases and has not been given appropriate medical treatment and nutrition while serving his jail term there, according to Mr Veera’s brother.
