The driver, identified as 51-year-old Thai national J. K., was behind the wheel of a Volvo sedan when he struck multiple vehicles and pedestrians. According to police, the Volvo first sideswiped several cars and motorcycles before accelerating away. It then collided with two more motorcycles and two pedestrians walking along the roadside.
One of the pedestrians, a French tourist identified as L. V. F., sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where he later died. The second pedestrian and the motorcyclists involved suffered injuries of varying severity.

Police stated that Jattapol was driving under the influence of alcohol and attempted to flee the scene before his vehicle crashed into a streetlight, disabling it. Emergency responders and traffic police were dispatched to provide aid, secure the area, and clear the wreckage, which caused significant traffic disruption.
The suspect now faces multiple charges, including drunk driving causing death, property damage, and fleeing the scene of an accident. The case has renewed attention on road safety and drink-driving enforcement in tourist-heavy areas like Phuket, where alcohol-related accidents remain a persistent concern.
