Drunk Driver Flees Scene After Red Light Crash Injures 12 in Khon Kaen
KHON KAEN – A drunk pickup truck driver caused a multi-vehicle collision that injured twelve people in Khon Kaen on Sunday night after running a red light and crashing into a sedan and a crowded dessert shop. The incident occurred around 11:08 PM on Sri Chant Road in Muang district, according to the Sawang Khon Kaen Rescue foundation.

Security footage confirmed the pickup driver, identified as 41-year-old Kuekrit, ignored a red traffic signal and struck a sedan that had the right of way. The impact sent the sedan careening into a power pole while the pickup subsequently plowed into outdoor seating at a nearby dessert shop, where ten customers sustained injuries including broken legs. Two additional individuals trapped in the damaged sedan required extraction by rescue workers.

Kuekrit initially fled the scene but was apprehended by police approximately 200 meters from the crash site.
He reportedly admitted to consuming two bottles of alcohol prior to driving, with subsequent blood tests revealing an alcohol level of 199 milligrams per 100 milliliters—nearly four times Thailand’s legal driving limit of 50 milligrams. All injured victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
