PHUKET – A British national was arrested in Phuket on January 11 after a video of him driving recklessly along a traffic island went viral on social media. The footage, shared by Newshawk Phuket, showed the man identified as L. T. O. maneuvering a yellow off-road Jeep on Thepkasattri Road in Thalang district amid heavy traffic on January 10.
Reckless Tourist’s Moving Taxi Stunt in Phuket Draws Public Fury
The video sparked public outrage and further reports emerged, including claims that the tourist had urinated on the road—supported by a circulated photo—and that he had been driving at high speed, nearly causing accidents. Police located and stopped the vehicle the following day with five occupants inside.
An initial alcohol breath test returned negative, but a drug screening revealed Mr. O. had used methamphetamine (Yaba). He has been charged with driving under the influence of a Category 1 narcotic, drug use, and public indecency. If convicted, he faces up to one year imprisonment and fines of up to 20,000 baht.
