Reckless Tourist’s Moving Taxi Stunt in Phuket Draws Public Fury

PHUKET – A foreign tourist in Phuket has sparked widespread outrage after video footage showed him leaning out of a moving taxi window in a dangerous stunt on Sunday, December 7. The clip, filmed by a following motorist and widely shared online, shows the tourist hanging from the passenger window while a friend records from the back seat. The taxi driver also appeared to be filming while navigating a winding road.

Thai social media users and motorists condemned the act as highly irresponsible and called for legal action against both the tourist and the driver. Many have urged police to investigate and have appealed to the Land Transport Department to consider suspending or revoking the driver’s license.

Although Thailand has no specific law addressing such behavior, legal experts note it could potentially be classified as reckless conduct if it endangers others or causes an accident. As of Wednesday, local police in Patong had not issued a statement or taken action regarding the incident.

The video has drawn comparisons to a recent viral incident in Pathum Thani, where a Thai woman was seen jumping onto the hood of a slowly moving car, causing damage but no serious injury. Both cases have amplified public concern over reckless behavior that compromises road safety.
