Tour Boat Evacuates 92 Passengers After Hull Crack in Rough Seas Off Koh Kut

TRAT – A tour boat operating between Koh Kut and the Trat mainland sustained significant hull damage in rough seas on Thursday morning, prompting the safe evacuation of all 92 passengers and crew. The incident occurred approximately 30 minutes after the vessel departed Ao Salat Pier, when strong waves near Koh Kradat cracked the hull, causing water to enter the boat.

The captain immediately dropped anchor to stabilize the situation and issued a distress call. A multi-agency rescue operation, coordinated by the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center in Trat, swiftly responded. Partner ferry companies and nearby fishing vessels assisted in the effort, with a Royal Thai Navy patrol boat also joining the operation.

All passengers, who were wearing life jackets throughout the incident, were successfully transferred to rescue vessels without injury. They arrived safely at Laem Sok Pier by 1:30 PM.

PM calls for higher safety standards on tourist boats

The boat, which has a maximum capacity of 240 people, was carrying a mix of Thai and foreign tourists at the time of the structural failure.
