Police Rescue Underage Girls in Raid on Chanthaburi Brothel

BANGKOK – A late-night police operation in Chanthaburi province has led to the dismantling of a brothel that was exploiting girls under the age of eighteen. The raid, conducted on Wednesday along a main highway in Tambon Sueng, Khlung District, followed reports that the establishment was illegally offering sexual services involving minors.

The operation was carried out by a joint force comprising officers from the Anti-Human Trafficking Division, Khlung district police, and officials from the provincial Social Development and Human Security office. Authorities arrested a 56-year-old woman identified only as Amitada, who now faces multiple charges including human trafficking for prostitution, according to Pol Maj Gen Wittaya Sriserthipap, commander of the AHTD.

Evidence seized during the raid included a used condom, marked banknotes from the undercover operation, a mobile phone, and a QR code slip used for processing money transfers. The investigation was launched after police received information that the venue was employing underage girls as servers while secretly providing commercial sex services.

An undercover agent successfully arranged to purchase the services of a 16-year-old girl for 3,500 baht. The girl was directed to transfer a 300-baht commission to an account registered under Ms Amitada’s name before being taken to a nearby hotel. Once the transaction was confirmed, officers moved in and entered the premises.

Inside, police discovered several girls aged between 16 and 17 working at the venue, accounting for more than half of the staff. The teenagers were found entertaining customers in a drinking companion setting. All underage girls were immediately rescued and classified as victims of human trafficking.

In addition to human trafficking, Ms Amitada has been charged with procuring a person under 18 for prostitution, abducting minors, operating an unlicensed entertainment venue, employing minors to work at night, and facilitating obscene conduct by minors. She has denied all allegations and has been transferred to an investigation unit at the Anti-Human Trafficking Division for further legal proceedings.
