Authorities Crack Down on Methamphetamine Trade in Phuket

In a significant move against drug trafficking, law enforcement officials in Phuket intensified their efforts on the evening of July 2nd, around 6:30 PM, launching a targeted operation in the Phru Sompharn neighborhood of Thepkrasattri in Thalang. A specialized task force executed a covert mission aimed at curbing the illegal trade of methamphetamine, locally known as “yaba.”

Acting on credible intelligence, officers deployed an undercover informant to carry out a sting purchase, which paved the way for a subsequent raid. The operation led to the arrest of a male suspect who now faces serious charges, including possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell and unlicensed distribution of dangerous substances for commercial purposes that have contributed to the spread of drugs within the community.

During the raid, authorities confiscated a total of 282 yaba tablets, including 25 tablets obtained during the sting operation. The mission was prompted by a tip-off alleging that a local grocery store was being used as a front for the illegal sale of narcotics. Shockingly, the suspect had been released on bail for a prior drug-related offense and was reportedly continuing his illicit activities without hesitation.

The suspect, along with the seized evidence, has since been handed over to Thalang Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities have emphasized that ongoing investigations are in place to dismantle any associated drug networks and prevent future trafficking activities in the region, signaling a firm stance against the menace of narcotics.
