BANGKOK — A tour bus transporting Indian exchange students crashed into an electricity pole in northern Bangkok late Monday morning, injuring more than ten people and causing traffic disruptions near the Air Force Academy intersection on Phahonyothin Road.

The accident occurred around 11:00 AM, as the bus was en route from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) at Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus. The bus driver, 46, told local media that the vehicle lost braking power just 200 meters before reaching the intersection. In an effort to avoid colliding with stationary vehicles at a red light, he swerved left—only to slam into a roadside utility pole. A nearby Toyota Soluna sedan was also struck in the rear during the incident.

Officers from Sai Mai Police Station responded quickly, coordinating with firefighters, rescue teams, and paramedics. A tour guide who was trapped in the bus wreckage had to be extracted by emergency crews. All injured students were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Most of the injuries were reported as non-life-threatening, though several required further medical evaluation.

The driver of the Toyota sedan recounted noticing the bus moving erratically from the Saphan Mai area. He was stopped at a light in the far-left lane when the bus struck his vehicle from behind. Speaking to reporters, he attributed his relatively minor injuries to a religious amulet he was wearing, which he believes spared him from more serious harm.

The force of the crash left the front end of the bus heavily damaged and prompted a temporary closure of the leftmost outbound lane of Phahonyothin Road. Two lanes remained open while police coordinated with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority to manage the downed pole and arrange for the removal of the vehicle. A tow service was dispatched to clear the scene and ease the resulting traffic congestion.

Police say they are now conducting a full investigation into the cause of the crash and will review the mechanical condition of the bus, driver records, and eyewitness statements. Legal proceedings will follow as authorities determine liability in the incident.
