The incident occurred on May 31 at the Mount Wind Tree Cafe, a popular roadside stop among cyclists. According to the cafe, two foreign cyclists stopped in for coffee and settled their 221.50 baht bill — about $6.74 — via bank transfer using a mobile app. However, they mistakenly transferred 22,150 baht, or roughly $674, according to a Bangkok Post report.

Unaware of the error, the tourists left the premises as normal. It wasn’t until later that café staff noticed the massive overpayment. Wanting to do the right thing, the café posted an announcement on their Facebook page, including a screenshot of the transaction and a photo from their CCTV footage, asking the public for help locating the customers.

The story quickly gained traction online, with commenters praising the café for its integrity. The following day, on June 1, the café posted an update confirming they had successfully identified one of the tourists, and had coordinated with the bank to process the full refund.
