Wat Rakhang – Temple of the Bells, Bangkok

Wat Rakhang Kositaram Woramahaviharn (วัด ระฆังโฆสิตาราม วรมหาวิหาร) also known as “The Temple of The Bells” is a Buddhist temple located in the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok Noi district, in the the heart of the old Bangkok, Thailand.
Wat Rakhang was built during the Ayutthaya period and its ubosot was built in the early Rattanakosin style. King Taksin, the King of Thonburi, restored the temple and elevated the monastery to the rank of Royal temple. The temple’s prang was built during the reign of King Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok the Great (พระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลก), also known as Rama I, in late Ayutthaya style.
Originally called Wat Yai Bangwa, Wat Rakhang is not one of the most popular temples in Thailand, but it’s well worth a visit, especially to see the Tripitaka Tower that houses the sacred Tipiṭaka scriptures, the Buddha’s teachings, and the Ho Trai library (หอ พระ ไตรปิฎก) which is the real attraction of the temple. The ensemble consists of three wood buildings with roofs in classical Thai style.
