Phu Langka’s ‘Naga Eye’ Emerges After the Rain

BUENG KAN, Thailand – The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has extended an invitation to tourists to witness the so-called “Naga Eye,” a natural wonder set amid the rocky landscape of Phu Langka National Park in Bueng Khong Long district of Bueng Kan province, a phenomenon that only reveals its full beauty during the rainy season.

TAT Invites Visitors to follow Footsteps of ‘LISA’

Named after the eye of a mythical serpent, the Naga Eye is actually a sandstone crater formed by erosion caused by water currents and rainfall over hundreds of thousands of years, and when the crater fills with rainwater and is touched by sunlight, its reflection bears an uncanny resemblance to the eye of a Naga, drawing visitors from across the country.

Department director-general Atthaphon Charoenchansa said the department remains determined to strike a balance between environmental and ecological protection and tourism promotion, ensuring that the natural site is preserved even as visitor numbers increase during the peak viewing season. Park chief Aksorn Manawong explained that although the Naga Eye is filled with water almost year-round, the best time to visit is during the rainy season, from May to October, when the crater is full of water and the reflection is at its most captivating, creating a spectacle that has become one of the region’s most sought-after natural attractions.

The Naga Eye has gained prominence as a symbol of Bueng Kan province’s unique geological heritage, with the site attracting both domestic tourists and international visitors intrigued by the blend of natural beauty and local mythology. Park officials have reminded visitors to respect the natural environment and follow park regulations to ensure the site remains pristine for future generations. The phenomenon serves as a reminder of the power of nature to shape landscapes over millennia, transforming simple sandstone into a mirror of legend.
