BANGKOK, 16 August 2012 (NNT) – Over 30,000 inmates who have received royal pardon have been released from prisons across the country on the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince’s birthdays.
Vice Minister of Justice Preecha Thananan presided over the ceremony to release inmates at Klong Prem Central Prison, held on the occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 80th birthday anniversary and HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 60th birthday anniversary this year.
A total of over 30,000 prisoners nationwide have been set free after having been granted royal pardon. 1,600 of them are in Bangkok and its vicinities.
Those eligible for royal pardon are inmates who displayed good behavior or had committed minor offenses. Prior to their release, the Corrections Department and related agencies had provided them with vocational and rehabilitation courses to help them readjust to normal life outside of prison.
