Cambodian court jails two Thai nationals in spying case

Phnom Penh – A Cambodian court on Tuesday sentenced Thai political activist Veera Somkwamkit to eight years in jail on charges of spying, crossing the border and illegally entering a military base.

The Municipal Court in Phnom Penh jailed Veera’s secretary, Ratree Taiputana, for six years on the same charges. The two also received fines of 450 dollars and 300 dollars, respectively.

Veera ignored questions from reporters as the two were led to a waiting prison van after the court ordered both of them to jail. They were given leave to appeal the verdict.
