Expressway Shooting Suspect Arrested on Koh Chang
KOH CHANG – The primary suspect in a fatal expressway shooting in Bangkok has been apprehended on the island of Koh Chang in Trat province. Songkran Panpu, 37, was arrested at a rented room on Wednesday, a day after the alleged road-rage incident that left a 34-year-old driver dead.

The shooting occurred early Tuesday morning near the Pracha Chuen toll plaza in Bang Sue district. According to police, the confrontation began approximately 500 meters before the toll booth when a Toyota Vellfire luxury van cut off the victim’s sedan. After paying the toll, the victim, Anuwat Yatniyom, was shot twice while inside his car as the van pulled alongside him. He died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Following the shooting, the suspect abandoned the van at a hotel in Nakhon Pathom province and hired a taxi to travel to Chon Buri, his home province. He was later tracked to Koh Chang, where he was arrested without resistance. Another man who assisted in his escape was also taken into custody.

An autopsy confirmed Anuwat was struck by two bullets from a 9mm pistol. His family received his body at Police General Hospital on Wednesday. His mother, Simma Yatniyom, 54, expressed profound grief, stating that road rage should never have led to such a violent outcome and noting that her son had recently started his own family.
