Major Cloudflare Outage Disrupts X, ChatGPT and Multiple Online Services

BANGKOK – A widespread technical failure at internet infrastructure giant Cloudflare caused significant disruptions across multiple high-profile platforms on Tuesday, including X and ChatGPT. The outage began around 11:30 GMT when thousands of users began reporting inaccessible services through Downdetector and other monitoring platforms.

Cloudflare confirmed in an official statement that its network experienced a “spike in unusual traffic” beginning at 11:20 UTC, causing errors for traffic passing through its systems. The company acknowledged it had not yet identified the cause of the abnormal traffic pattern but stated that teams were “all hands-on deck” to restore normal operations.

Users attempting to access X encountered internal server error messages, while ChatGPT displayed notifications instructing users to “unblock challenges cloudflare.com to proceed.” Similar error messages appeared across various other affected websites throughout the service disruption. Cloudflare’s service status dashboard indicated the issue “potentially impacts multiple customers” across its network. While the company later reported seeing “services recover,” it cautioned that some customers might continue experiencing elevated error rates as remediation efforts continued.
