Thailand Braces for Shifting Weather Patterns as Rainy Season Transitions to Early Winter
BANGKOK – The Meteorological Department has issued its updated weather outlook for the first half of October, forecasting a period of significant transition as the country moves from the rainy season toward the cooler conditions of early winter. The 15-day forecast, covering October 3 to 17, 2025, indicates fluctuating conditions including returning rainfall and the initial influence of a cold air mass.
Tropical Storm Bualoi to Bring Heavy Rain Across Thailand for Two Days
From October 3 to 5, a general decrease in rainfall is expected across the country, offering many areas a reprieve from the recent heavy downpours and a chance to begin recovery efforts. However, this drier interlude will be short-lived. Between October 5 and 7, rainfall is forecast to return, with some regions experiencing moderate to heavy downpours. This resurgence is attributed to a combination of a low-pressure system and the indirect effects of Tropical Storm Matmo, which is projected to make landfall in southern China. While the storm will not directly impact Thailand, it is expected to strengthen the prevailing southwest monsoon, leading to increased precipitation.

A more definitive shift is anticipated from October 8 onward, as the first signs of a cold air mass are forecast to spread southward into the region. This will cause prevailing winds to change to the east and northeast, bringing cooler mornings and evenings, particularly for residents in the Northern and upper Northeastern regions. Despite the cooler temperatures, weather conditions will remain unstable, characterized by hot afternoons and sporadic rainfall. This pattern signals the beginning of the seasonal transition into the winter period.
