Hundreds of Scam Workers Flee Myanmar Compound, Surge Across Thai Border
TAK – Hundreds of foreign workers, many suspected of involvement in online scam operations, have fled a notorious compound in Myanmar and crossed into Thailand following a military raid. The exodus occurred after the Myanmar military launched an operation targeting the sprawling “KK Park” scam compound, located directly opposite the Thai district of Mae Sot.

The initial wave of the evacuation saw 202 individuals, predominantly Chinese nationals, swim across the Moei River and surrender to Thai border authorities on Thursday. The influx continued throughout the night and into the following morning, with over 400 additional foreign nationals, including significant numbers of Indian and African individuals, crossing the river near Mae Sot’s permanent border checkpoints.

The sudden arrival of more than 500 people has strained local resources, forcing Thai authorities to deploy additional personnel. The migrants are being transferred to four emergency reception areas, though temporary shelters in Mae Sot are reported to be nearing capacity. Officials anticipate further arrivals as the situation develops.

While all individuals who crossed the border illegally face legal charges under Thai immigration law, they are being provided with food, water, and security in accordance with international humanitarian principles. The Myanmar military’s operation was reportedly aimed at suppressing resistance groups and dismantling Chinese-run cybercrime hubs in the border region.
