Thai Immigration Denies Coercion in Case of Belarusian Model Who Died in Myanmar

BANGKOK – Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has refuted claims that a Belarusian model was forcibly taken to Myanmar, where she was allegedly killed by a scam gang and had her organs sold on the black market. The case of 26-year-old Vera Kravtsova first gained attention after being reported by Russian news outlet Mash, with subsequent coverage by international media fueling widespread social media discussion.

British Teen Vanishes in Thai-Myanmar Border

According to the initial reports, Kravtsova had traveled from Belarus to Thailand in September for a modeling job interview in Bangkok. She was then supposedly forced into Myanmar and pressed into service at a scam center, where her duties included using her appearance to deceive wealthy individuals. The reports further alleged that after failing to meet performance targets, she was tortured, killed, and her organs were harvested and sold. The gang involved reportedly demanded five hundred thousand dollars from her family for the return of her remains, but later refused to cooperate and informed her parents that she had been cremated.

However, Pol Maj Gen Choengron Rimpadee, a spokesman for the Immigration Bureau, stated on Tuesday that their investigation determined Kravtsova was not coerced into crossing into Myanmar. Immigration records show she arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on September 14 and later departed the country voluntarily on a Thai Airways flight to Yangon on the morning of September 20. CCTV footage confirmed she passed through the automated immigration channel alone, showing no signs of being under duress or pressure from anyone. The spokesman emphasized that the alleged brutal incidents occurred after the model had flown to Myanmar, a matter outside Thai police jurisdiction.

The Immigration Bureau has provided evidence of the woman’s arrival and departure to the Consulate of Belarus in Thailand. Pol Maj Gen Choengron also outlined the bureau’s existing measures to screen foreigners, aimed at preventing individuals from being deceived by scam gangs and blocking gangsters from entering the kingdom under visa-free arrangements. He noted that so far this year, approximately 34,000 individuals have been denied entry under these protocols.
