Cool Season Deluge: Bangkok Braces for a Wet Weekend as Rains Persist

BANGKOK – Despite the official commencement of Thailand’s cool season over a week ago, unseasonal rainfall continues to douse many parts of the country, with forecasts predicting a wet weekend ahead for the capital. The Meteorological Department attributes the persistent showers to a transitional weather pattern influenced by a cold front moving south from China and the ongoing La Niña phenomenon.

Thailand Braces for Widespread Heavy Rain and Flooding Threat

In a statement released on Thursday, the department clarified that this period marks a shift from the rainy to the cool season, explaining the current climatic conditions. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration echoed this outlook on Friday, warning residents of a 70% chance of rain across Greater Bangkok.

The national weather agency has also forecast continued rainfall throughout the weekend for central, northern, and northeastern provinces, suggesting the cool, dry weather typical for this time of year may be delayed.
