Baby dies after being attacked by a pit bull in Uthai Thani

UTHAI THANI — A two-month-old girl died on Tuesday after being mauled by a pit bull at a rice mill in Uthai Thani province, where her mother was collecting scrap metal. The infant was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, with severe head injuries inflicted by the dog.

The attack occurred when the child’s mother, accompanied by her father, was working at the property after confirming with the owner that the dog—a two-year-old pit bull named “Big”—was not aggressive. Shortly after the owner brought the dog outside, it sniffed the mother before moving to the stroller where the baby was sleeping. Despite the owner’s attempts to intervene, the animal broke free, bit the infant’s head, and dragged her to a nearby drainage ditch.

Authorities found a six-meter trail of blood and a stroller stained with blood near the ditch. The pit bull was still loose when officials arrived, requiring them to wait for the owner to secure the animal before exiting their vehicle. The dog’s owner speculated that the animal may have mistaken the child for a toy.

The grieving family has collected the infant’s body for a forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death. The mother expressed that no amount of compensation could replace her daughter, though discussions with the dog’s owner have not yet taken place.
