Elderly Couple Dies in Apparent Joint Suicide from Bangkok Bridge

CCTV footage captured the couple walking hand-in-hand to the railing at 7:25 p.m. on Monday, where they shared a final embrace before disappearing into the dark waters amid passing boat traffic. A construction supervisor driving home witnessed the pair sitting on the railing with their arms around each other and immediately stopped to check on them—only to find they had already vanished.

Bang Kruai Police and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation launched a search operation Monday night, though initial sweeps of the bridge area yielded no clues. Divers located the man’s body near Rat Burana district on Tuesday morning, while the woman’s remains were found closer to Rama VIII Bridge.

Relatives have confirmed the identities of the couple, whose motives remain unknown. The tragic incident has cast a somber mood over the community, with authorities continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the apparent joint suicide.
