PHUKET – Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in Rawai after finding him in possession of 56 methamphetamine pills, commonly known as “ya ba”, during a targeted anti-drug operation over the weekend.

The arrest occurred in Moo 2 of Rawai’s Sea Gypsy Village, where officers had been conducting patrols to crack down on drug-related activities. Authorities spotted the teenage suspect along an inner footpath and, upon searching him, discovered the stash of methamphetamine tablets.

Police confirmed that the minor, a local resident of Rawai, has been charged with:

• Unauthorized possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to distribute

• Methamphetamine consumption

Both offenses are serious violations under Thailand’s stringent narcotics laws.

Following the arrest, the suspect and the confiscated drugs were handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings. The case highlights ongoing concerns over youth involvement in drug trafficking in tourist-heavy areas like Phuket.
