Nigerian National Arrested Following Dramatic Drug Chase in Phuket
PHUKET, Aug 3 – A high-speed police pursuit through the streets of Phuket in the early hours of Tuesday morning culminated in the arrest of a Nigerian national and the seizure of more than 70 grams of cocaine from his vehicle.

The incident unfolded during a routine checkpoint inspection on Chao Fa West Road in Chalong subdistrict, where officers reported a suspicious vehicle abruptly accelerating away upon approaching the inspection point. Authorities immediately gave chase as the suspect led them on a dangerous pursuit through Kathu district, before being successfully intercepted on Chao Fa Mine Road.
The driver, identified as Mr. Basil, a Nigerian national, was taken into custody without further incident. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed 73.31 grams of cocaine, classified as a Category 2 narcotic under Thai law.

Chalong Police have formally charged Mr. Basil with illegal possession of a controlled substance, with all evidence forwarded for legal processing. While investigators have yet to disclose potential connections to broader drug trafficking networks, the case remains under active investigation.
