Pattaya Police Raid Chinese National’s Villa Over Social Media Gun Posts

Pattaya, July 8, 2025 – Tourist police stormed a luxury villa in Pattaya’s Thepprasit area early Tuesday morning, arresting a Chinese national after social media posts showed him posing with firearms. The raid, authorized by the Pattaya Provincial Court, targeted 47-year-old Liu, whose online activity raised suspicions of illegal weapons possession.

Acting on a tip about Liu’s social media profile pictures featuring firearms, officers arrived at the two-story villa at 6:30 AM. After receiving no response at the gate, they entered and detained seven individuals—six Chinese nationals and a Thai driver—before identifying Liu as the primary suspect.

A search of Liu’s bedroom uncovered a BB handgun, a long-barrel BB rifle, and 16 rounds of 9mm live ammunition in a safe. While Liu claimed the firearms in his posts belonged to friends or were rented from a shooting range, police arrested him for possessing the ammunition without authorization.

Authorities are verifying Liu’s statements and examining whether the BB guns violate Thailand’s imitation firearms laws. The case highlights growing concerns over foreign tourists flaunting weapons online, prompting stricter enforcement in tourist-heavy areas like Pattaya.
