Authorities grew suspicious during routine baggage screening when X-ray scans detected anomalies in the man’s luggage. Upon inspection, officers discovered multiple handbags with freshly stitched seams containing grey fabric packages wrapped in black tape. Further examination revealed layers of carbon paper and plastic bags filled with a white powder that later tested positive for heroin. The drugs were strategically hidden within the lining of the bags and the suitcase’s internal structure.
The total seizure amounted to 3,235 grams of heroin, with an estimated street value exceeding one million baht. The suspect now faces severe charges under Thailand’s narcotics laws for attempting to export Category 1 drugs.

The case has been transferred to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau for expanded investigation, including potential links to international trafficking networks. A Customs Department spokesperson noted that heroin smuggling attempts remain persistent, with nearly 98 kilograms seized in 28 separate cases since October 2024.
This arrest highlights Thailand’s ongoing role as both a transit hub and active participant in regional anti-drug efforts. Authorities have warned travelers of intensified screenings amid rising attempts to conceal narcotics in creative ways.
