Russian National Arrested in Phuket for Illegal Cannabis and Vape Operation
Phuket, Thailand – A 24-year-old Russian man was taken into custody during a police raid at his residence on Chao Fa Road in Wichit, Phuket, where authorities uncovered a stash of illegal cannabis products and electronic cigarettes worth nearly one million baht (approx. $27,300 USD).

The suspect, identified only as Mr. A., was allegedly operating an unlicensed business selling dried cannabis flowers, hash extracts, and over 200 vaping devices—all prohibited under Thai law. Officers from the Wichit Police Station seized the contraband during the operation, which included branded cannabis extracts and a significant quantity of unregulated e-cigarettes.
Police confirmed that the Russian national faces several serious violations such as: illegal possession and sale of cannabis under Thailand’s 1999 Traditional Medicine Act, possession of a Category 5 narcotic (cannabis) without authorization, selling banned e-cigarettes, which violate Thai customs laws and working without a valid permit.
The arrest comes as Thai authorities tighten enforcement on unlicensed cannabis sales and vape products, despite the country’s 2022 decriminalization of cannabis. While recreational use remains illegal, many foreigners have exploited legal gray areas by operating unregulated dispensaries.
“This case serves as a warning—Thailand welcomes tourists, but illegal businesses will not be tolerated,” said a Phuket Immigration official.
