Foreign Suspect at Large After Bold Cannabis Shop Heist in Phuket

Phuket, Thailand – Authorities are searching for a foreign national who executed a brazen overnight burglary at Saen Sook Smoke Weed, a cannabis shop in Patong, stealing products worth 30,000 baht and 2,000 baht in cash. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 22, 2025, with the thief caught on CCTV drilling through the shop’s wall to gain entry.

The suspect drilled through the shop’s wall to bypass security and stole 150 grams of dried cannabis (valued at 30,000 baht), 2,000 baht in cash and a portable speaker.

CCTV Footage captured the masked intruder covering security cameras with a cloth and wearing a ski mask to hide his identity.

Kwan, the 24-year-old owner, expressed shock at the audacity of the break-in: “He knew exactly what he was doing—drilling through the wall and covering the cameras. This wasn’t random; it was planned.” “The hole was perfectly cut – he came prepared with tools. This was not an amateur thief; he specifically targeted us.”, he added.

Patong Police Superintendent Col. Thanet Sukchai confirmed the suspect appears to be a foreign national, complicating efforts to track him through local databases. “This was clearly premeditated,” noted Col. Thanet. “The suspect studied the shop’s layout and knew where to drill.”

The incident raises questions about vulnerabilities in Phuket’s cannabis shops, which have proliferated since Thailand’s legalization.

With Patong welcoming over 10,000 nightly visitors, business owners fear such incidents could tarnish the area’s reputation. “Tourists need to feel safe,” said Patong Business Association president Weerasak Kowsurat. The burglary has sent shockwaves through Phuket’s 200+ legal cannabis shops, many clustered in tourist areas.

Police urge anyone with information to contact Patong Police Station.
