Wat Rong Khun, also known as The White Temple (วัดร่องขุ่น จังหวัดเชียงราย) is a Buddhist and Hindu temple located in the northern province of Chiang Rai in Thailand.

This peculiar and modern temple was designed and built by the artist Chaloemchai Khositphiphat. The construction began in 1997 and was finished in 2008.

The White Temple is different from any other temple in Thailand, as its ubosot or consecrated assembly hall is designed in white color with some use of white glass. The white color stands for Lord Buddha’s purity; the white glass stands for Lord Buddha’s wisdom that “shines brightly all over the Earth and the Universe.” The white ordination hall – Phra Ubosot – is decorated with silver glittering pieces of mirrors.

On May 6, 2014 a 6.1-magnitude earthquake damaged Wat Rong Khun and it will be closed indefinitely for repairs.
