Wat Phutthaisawan (วัดพุทไธศวรรย์) is an ancient temple located on the south bank of the Chao Phraya river in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, the former capital of The Kingdom of Thailand (Siam). Wat Phutthai Sawan mean the Monastery of Lord Buddha of the Heavens.

A marvelous and ancient temple in the Chao Phraya river

King U Thong (King Ramathibodi I), who founded Ayutthaya in 1351, ordered the construction of this temple in 1353. The visible white prang with winged mondops is situated in the middle of the compound and is one of the main attractions for tourists visiting Ayuttaya.

Visitors will enjoy splendid views; the Reclining Buddha, the statue of King U-Thong, the beautiful ubosot and multiple golden Buddha images located along the cloister of Wat Phutthaisawan.

Wat Phutthai Sawan, the Monastery of The Lord Buddha of the Heavens, is one of the more beautiful ancient monasteries in Ayutthaya. This temple can be easily seen from a river boat cruising along the Chao Phraya river in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
