4 people questioned over spread of coup messages on social media

BANGKOK, 6 August 2013 (NNT) – The police have summoned 4 individuals who violated the computer control law by sending online messages alleging impending coup d’état, which caused panic amongst the public.

The police’s Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) has summoned Thai PBS Television’s political news editor Soemsuk Kasitipradit, Chonburi UDD leader Dechathon Thiraphiriya, former TV program host Yo Onsine and Waruni Khamduengsi for questioning.

According to Police Major General Phisit Pao-in, the commander of the TCSD, the 4 posted social media messages alleging an impending coup and urging people to hoard food and water, and this may have caused panic among the public.
