UEFA denies True Visions the right to air Euro 2012

BANGKOK, 13 June 2012 (NNT) – The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has denied True Visions the right to broadcast the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012.

True Visions and GMM Grammy executives held a meeting last Friday to discuss enabling True Visions subscribers to view the Euro 2012 football tournament on free-TV channels.

Following the meeting, GMM’s representatives forwarded a request to UEFA for permission to broadcast the tournament on True Visions.

Nonetheless, UEFA today denied True Visions broadcasting rights, citing a violation of conditions in an existing sublicensing agreement as a main reason.

The statement issued by UEFA further noted that the organization is satisfied with the current free broadcasts of Euro 2012 via the terrestrial analog signal. True Visions, as a pay-TV operator, is consequently not allowed to become a participating broadcaster.
