Thai Govt wary as red shirts mass in Udon Thani

Thaksin Addresses Supporters

Supporters of the pro-Thaksin United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship have gathered in Udon Thani, prompting concern among government figures that the protest group may be regaining strength.

Puea Thai MP and UDD key leader Jatuporn Prompan, together with deputy House speaker Apiwan Wiriyachai and a number of Puea Thai MPs, also joined the gathering yesterday organised by the UDD-affiliated Khon Rak Udon group.

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra gave a speech through a phone-in at 8pm.

Thaksin said if he came back he would improve the lives of rural people by “plucking them from poverty in a short time”, and asked them to vote for Puea Thai in the next election.
