Chiranuch Premchaiporn, director of independent online newspaper prachatai.com was released on bail yesterday after her relatives posted Bt200,000 bail with Khon Kaen police.

Police said the 43 year-old webmaster was arrested at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Friday after her arrival from Finland, following an arrest warrant from Khon Kaen Provincial Court. She was accused of allowing web content with lese majeste concerns (possibly offensive to the monarchy) and violating the Computer Crimes Act.

Police allege that she did not erase messages with lese majeste content posted by Internet users on the website. The court issued the warrant on September 8 after people there copied the material from the site and gave the copies to police, and told them the website allowed users to post messages with information that may be offensive to the monarchy, which is illegal.
