Russian Tourist Injured at Pattaya Pier as Boat Crushes Leg During Docking

PATTAYA – A 60-year-old Russian tourist sustained serious injuries at Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya on Wednesday after being crushed between a ferry and the pier rail while attempting to disembark. The incident occurred around noon on December 10, 2025, as the woman was returning with her family from Koh Larn.

Rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation responded to the scene, providing urgent first aid for a severe laceration before transporting the victim to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. Witnesses reported that strong winds and choppy seas caused the vessel to sway significantly as it approached the dock, complicating the disembarkation process.

According to eyewitness accounts, the woman slipped along the boat’s edge while trying to step onto the pier. As the ferry shifted again in the waves, it pinned her leg forcefully against the pier railing, resulting in the extensive wound described by rescuers. Maritime operators have previously warned passengers of increased risks during rough weather, which can make docking maneuvers unstable and unpredictable.

Local authorities are expected to review the circumstances of the docking process and consider whether additional safety protocols are needed for ferry operations during adverse conditions, especially at busy piers like Bali Hai. No official statement has yet been issued regarding a formal safety review.
