Thai Transgender Community Seeks Legal Action Against Foreigner Over Covert Videos
BANGKOK – Members of Thailand’s transgender community are calling for legal action against a foreign national who has been secretly recording and sharing videos of them without consent. The individual, known online as “Yaribal,” has allegedly used hidden cameras in smart glasses to film encounters in entertainment districts like Pattaya, subsequently posting the footage on social media platforms where it has attracted offensive and discriminatory comments.

The videos, which include invasive questions about gender identity and health, have sparked outrage within online communities. Those affected report that requests to remove the content have been ignored. Legal experts suggest these actions may violate Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), which prohibits collecting and disclosing personal data without consent.

While the individual’s true identity and nationality remain unconfirmed—though speculation points to Russian origins—no formal police complaints have yet been filed. The case has highlighted broader concerns about privacy violations in Thailand’s entertainment zones, with reports indicating other foreigners have engaged in similar non-consensual recording and distribution of explicit content involving sex workers.
