The incident began as a routine traffic enforcement operation after a local resident alerted the Tourist Police hotline. When officers confronted Onganer at a coin-operated car wash, he became uncooperative, shouting at police and allegedly threatening them while claiming to have powerful connections. A search of his shoulder bag revealed a brass knuckle knife, leading to his immediate detention.

Subsequent immigration checks uncovered an outstanding international arrest warrant from Germany for a case involving armed robbery and assault that left a victim injured. During questioning, Onganer reportedly admitted to fleeing Germany after the offense and hiding on Koh Phangan for several months. Thai authorities have charged him with reckless driving and carrying a weapon in public while initiating coordination with German law enforcement for extradition proceedings. The suspect remains in custody on the island as international legal procedures continue.
