Murdered Woman Found in Chained Suitcase in Pattaya Reservoir
PATTAYA — The bound body of a young woman was discovered inside a chained suitcase floating in a Pattaya reservoir on Wednesday morning, sparking a murder investigation and eerie parallels to a similar case earlier this year in nearby Rayong, the Bangkok Post reported.
Body of Unidentified Woman Found Stuffed in Suitcase in Rayong Pond
The black King Safari suitcase, heavily secured with metal chains, padlocks, and cable ties, was spotted by a national rowing team athlete training at Khlong Bang Phai reservoir in Bang Lamung district. Lt Kasemsit Boriboonwasin alerted police after noticing the suitcase floating approximately 80 meters from shore around 6:30 a.m.
Rescue workers retrieved the suitcase and cut through the restraints, revealing the curled-up body of a woman around 30 years old, wearing only cream-colored pants and covered in tattoos. Her identity and nationality remain unknown, and no documents were found with the body. A foul odor indicated she had been dead for approximately five days.
A preliminary examination revealed bruising on her neck, chest, and nasal bridge, along with fingerprints on weight plates found in the suitcase’s front compartment. The weights—totaling 15 kg—included one 5 kg plate, three 2.5 kg plates, one 1.5 kg plate, and four 0.5 kg plates, suggesting a deliberate attempt to sink the body.

The reservoir, managed by the navy and used as a training site for rowers, has multiple access points but no surveillance cameras. Heavy rain over the past three days washed away potential evidence, complicating the investigation. A duty guard recalled seeing lights near the reservoir five days earlier and reported unusual continuous howling from dogs three nights ago.
The case mirrors a murder in Ban Chang, Rayong, just 14 kilometers away, where a woman’s body was similarly found in a weighted suitcase. Police are exploring possible connections between the two crimes.
