Four ‘Britons’ charged with robbing an American citizen in broad daylight in Phuket

PHUKET — Four “British” men of foreign origin, have been formally charged with joint robbery after allegedly attacking and robbing a 40-year-old American lawyer in Cherng Talay earlier this week. The victim was targeted for his luxurious Philippe Patek watch estimated to be worth over 2 million baht, while riding his motorcycle, in an incident that has raised concerns about premeditated crimes targeting foreigners in tourist areas.

Phuket Police confirmed that all suspects entered Thailand legally on tourist visas between May and June, arriving separately but residing together at the same location. One suspect arrived on the same day as the victim, leading investigators to explore possible surveillance or deliberate targeting.

Despite denying the allegations, the suspects remain in custody as police continue interrogations and coordinate with UK authorities to review their criminal histories. The investigation is also examining potential connections to broader criminal networks or additional accomplices.

The case highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring tourist safety in Phuket, where incidents of violence against foreigners occasionally strain the island’s reputation as a premier travel destination. Authorities have urged visitors to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

Police are pursuing all leads and expect to conclude the investigation swiftly, with possible additional charges pending further evidence. The American victim is cooperating with authorities as the legal process unfolds.
