Evacuees Seek Shelter in Ubon Ratchathani as Border Tensions Escalate

UBON RATCHATHANI – A temporary shelter in Mueang Det subdistrict has begun receiving a steady flow of evacuees as security concerns grow along the Thai-Cambodian border. Since September 27, 92 residents from Dom Pradit subdistrict have arrived at the facility, including bedridden patients, individuals with disabilities, seven elderly persons, and 25 children. Local authorities anticipate more arrivals as village leaders continue to broadcast updates and encourage families to relocate to safer areas.

Many of the displaced residents arrived well-prepared, having heeded prior advisories to keep essential belongings packed and ready. Their previous experiences with displacement have contributed to a more organized transition, allowing families to bring necessary items to ease their stay in temporary housing.

The Mueang Det Subdistrict Administrative Organization has mobilized health volunteers, assistant village heads, and nursing staff to manage shelter operations. Teams are registering new arrivals, organizing accommodations, and distributing food. Authorities are utilizing emergency rice reserves—at least 400 kilograms stored from prior relief operations—to prepare meals for those displaced.

Additional families from Dom Pradit have started relocating independently, though in smaller numbers. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and remain prepared to accommodate more residents if border conditions deteriorate further. To ensure a coordinated response, Ubon Ratchathani province has established an emergency command center to oversee operations and deliver timely support to affected communities as the situation develops.
