In a strongly worded statement, the Thai Foreign Ministry accused Cambodia of violating international law, the UN Charter, and the Ottawa Convention, which bans the use of anti-personnel mines. The ministry asserted that the blast occurred in an area previously cleared of explosives, suggesting new mines had been deliberately planted.
“This marks the third such incident in a month targeting Thai troops,” the statement read, calling Cambodia’s actions a “grave breach of sovereignty” and a direct threat to the ceasefire agreement brokered at the August 7 General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

The ministry further criticized Cambodia for rejecting Thai proposals on joint landmine clearance and cooperation against scam operations based in Cambodian border zones. Thailand vowed to lodge a formal protest and demanded Cambodia halt all violations of the Ottawa Convention, urging immediate collaboration on humanitarian demining efforts.
