Construction Halted at Min Buri Pumping Station After Structural Collapse Injures 12

Bangkok, July 7, 2025 – Authorities have suspended work at a critical drainage infrastructure project in Min Buri after its unfinished steel framework collapsed late last night, leaving a dozen laborers hospitalized and raising urgent safety concerns.

Min Buri District Director Sakchai Saisuk confirmed the temporary stoppage at the Nimit Mai Road construction site, where preliminary findings suggest inadequate support walls caused reinforcing bars to tilt dangerously. While officials have ruled out substandard materials as the cause, forensic engineers continue examining the disaster’s root causes.

The injured—a mix of Thai, Myanmar, and Cambodian workers—received emergency care at Nawamin 9 Hospital. The contractor faces immediate financial liability for their medical treatment and recovery costs under Thai labor laws.

Metropolitan Waterworks Authority spokesperson Nisapat Wongphat disputed structural defects as contributing factors, though independent verification remains pending. The incident has renewed scrutiny of safety protocols at major public works projects across the capital, where rapid development sometimes outpaces regulatory oversight.
