The suspect, identified as Li Jian, had been apprehended earlier on Wednesday at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport while attempting to board an AirAsia flight to Da Nang, Vietnam. His arrest followed the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Pattaya provincial court, stemming from a complaint filed by a fellow Chinese national.
According to investigators, the complainant alleged that Li, a former friend, defrauded him in a cryptocurrency exchange deal. The victim claimed he transferred 38,712.77 USDT—approximately 1.26 million baht—in exchange for 178,000 yuan, which Li allegedly never delivered.

Following his arrest, Li was transferred to Pattaya police for questioning. During the interrogation, which took place on the second floor of the station, Li reportedly exploited a moment of distraction to escape. Witnesses say he leapt from a window and, despite sustaining apparent injuries from the fall, managed to flee on foot.
Pol Maj Gen Choengron Rimpadee, commander of Immigration Division 2, confirmed the escape and said authorities are actively searching for the fugitive. Security footage is being reviewed, and checkpoints across Chonburi province and surrounding regions have been alerted.
The incident has raised concerns about detainee supervision and prompted an internal review into procedural lapses that allowed Li to escape custody.
