Thai Rock Legend Sek Loso Sentenced to Prison in Final Court Ruling
BANGKOK – The Supreme Court has delivered a final verdict in the long-running legal saga of Thai rock icon Sek Loso (Seksan Sukpimai), sentencing the 50-year-old musician to two years, twelve months, and twenty days imprisonment for drug offenses and resisting arrest. The ruling marks the conclusion of a seven-year court battle stemming from the artist’s dramatic 2017 arrest.

The court upheld charges of illegal drug use, obstruction of justice, and firearm violations related to the December 2017 incident where Loso live-streamed himself firing a 9mm pistol at a temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Police later raided his Bangkok home, where he threatened officers with the weapon before testing positive for methamphetamine and ecstasy.

This final sentence combines:
-
Reduced penalties for firearm possession (originally 5 months, adjusted to 3 months)
-
Maintained convictions for drug use and resisting arrest
-
Incorporates previous assault charges from a separate case involving his ex-wife’s aide
The Min Buri Criminal Court’s initial 2018 42-month sentence was gradually reduced through appeals, with the Supreme Court’s decision representing the last legal recourse. The rock star, known for classics like Pantip and Bpam, was immediately taken into custody following today’s verdict, just weeks after performing in Pattaya earlier this month.
Throughout the protracted legal process, Loso remained free on bail totaling 1.1 million baht (500,000 baht in 2018 and 600,000 baht in 2021). His legal team had previously cited bipolar disorder as mitigation, though courts rejected this defense.

Fans have flooded social media with mixed reactions, ranging from support to disappointment, as Thailand’s music scene processes the imprisonment of one of its most influential figures. No statement has yet been issued by Loso or his representatives regarding potential appeals for royal clemency.
