Thai Air Force Deploys F-16s to Intercept Myanmar Aircraft Near Border

TAK PROVINCE – The Royal Thai Air Force dispatched two F-16 fighter jets this afternoon after a Myanmar military aircraft was detected operating near the Thai-Myanmar border in Phop Phra district.

Thai Troops Reinforce Border Amid Escalating Myanmar Conflict

According to a military source, the Myanmar YAK-130 aircraft entered the vicinity while conducting an airstrike against the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), dropping four bombs on the ethnic armed group’s command center opposite Thailand’s Vally sub-district. The Thai fighters were scrambled from their Nakhon Sawan base as a precautionary measure, prompting the Myanmar plane to retreat into its own airspace.

The ongoing conflict in Myanmar has led to a fresh influx of displaced civilians, with 377 Karen refugees – predominantly women, children and elderly – crossing into Thailand’s Phop Phra district to seek temporary shelter at three relief centers. Thai authorities continue to monitor the border situation closely amid escalating regional tensions.

The incident marks the latest spillover of Myanmar’s internal conflict into Thai territory, raising concerns about regional stability and civilian safety along the porous border. Authorities have not reported any Thai airspace violations, but remain on high alert as fighting between Myanmar’s junta forces and ethnic armed groups intensifies.
