BANGKOK – At least three vehicles were struck by falling construction debris from the accident-prone Rama II expressway project on May 19, renewing concerns over safety along the critical southern Bangkok artery, Bangkok Safety Watch said.

The incidents came to light after a driver shared photos of his damaged car on Facebook, showing a caved-in roof and shattered rear window from the impact. His post quickly went viral, drawing attention to the ongoing hazards posed by the elevated highway construction. Two other vehicles traveling behind him were also hit by falling concrete fragments on the same day, suffering similar damage.

One affected driver reported being contacted by an expressway project representative who acknowledged responsibility for the incident. However, uncertainty remains over whether adequate compensation will be provided. The drivers came forward in hopes of pressuring authorities to enforce stricter safety measures along the construction zone.

The Expressway Authority of Thailand has recorded over 2,500 construction-related incidents on the Rama II corridor since 2019, including 143 fatalities and 1,400 injuries. The latest debris falls add to the project’s troubling safety record, raising urgent questions about oversight and accountability.
